The Bengal is a highly intellegent, energetic cat that may not be right for everyone. Please read through these Bengal facts to determine if this is the right breed for you.
Bengals are a high energy breed. They are not lap cats and don’t sit quietly on the sofa arm all evening. If you want a couch potato, a Bengal is not for you. That isn’t to say a Bengal won’t sit in your lap; just don’t expect them to sit all night. Bengals love to climb. It is in their nature. We recommend cat towers for this reason. Expect your Bengal to jump on the counters and on top of cabinets. If this is something you can't tolerate-don't get a Bengal.
We get this question a lot. The answer is YES! All of our Bengals have been socialized with four very energetic children in a busy household. Just remember that children need to be coached on how to approach a kitten and how to be gentle. Also, kitten claws are SHARP. It is important to keep their claws trimmed especially in the early kitten stage.
Bengals love to communicate. Bengals tend to speak more than many other cat breeds and will let you know if they need or want something.
Because they have a more dense pelt versus a normal cats fur the Bengal cat sheds very little in comparison to other cat breeds. In addition Bengals are one of just a few cat breeds that are Hypoallergenic. Meaning they are less likely to cause an allergic reaction in people who are allergic to cats.
If you live an active lifestyle, Bengals are the perfect companion pet for you. Bengals can be harness trained and are great adventure cats. They love to be outdoors and you can take them with you on car rides, hiking, etc. If you plan to leave a single Bengal alone for long periods it’s going to make for a sad, problematic cat. If you are not able to be with your cat during the day, we HIGHLY recommend adopting in pairs. Littermates have a strong bond and will keep each other busy and tire each other out are less likely to act out due to boredom.
Most Bengals love to splash and play with water. Do not be surprised if your Bengal tries to get in the shower with you! A drinking fountain with running water can provide a lot of fun for your Bengal .
Watch your toilet, it may become an enticing playground for your Bengal. Keep the lid shut-we warned you.
